Will he be a star? Only time will tell. If Mark Johnston has anything to do with proceedings, them Harlem Soul will be raring to go.
Mark Johnston is no stranger to two-year-old winners at Pontefract and especially debutantes who can often hit the target.
Harlem Soul is a chestnut colt out of a two-time winning mare, Giants Play. She raced from 2009 - 11, starting her career with Sir Micheal Stoute and concluded in the United States with Christopher Clement. Achieving a win in the UK and States, a career of just twelve races saw an additional six placed efforts. A highest official rating on 96 and total prize earning of £99, 505 detail a fair horse.
Harlem Soul was bred by Newsells Park Stud, sold to Teme Valley costing 130,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales.
This February foal could well start favourite when competing in a seven-horse race at Pontefract over 1m 2f on soft going, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa.
Owners Teme Valley have already been successful with Gear Up (pictured), a two-year-old trained at Kingsley Park, who has proven a very talented juvenile. This son of Teofilo won his first two starts at York. In fact, his second start proved successful at Group 2 Class when taking the Acomb Stakes by half a length. Far from disgraced in fourth place - losing by two-and-a-half lengths - in the Royal Lodge Group 2.
If Harlem Soul can achieve those heights, connections will be very happy.
For those of you who are interested in Mark Johnston's 2yo Frankel offspring, then you will be pleased to see he has more bright talents at Kingsley Park Stables.
