Frankel Colt Al Mubhir Backed to Win on Newmarket Debut (3rd October 2021)

William Haggas is a trainer to take note of when sending his debutantes to Newmarket and that proved to be the case when Al Mubhir flew home to take the MansionBet Beaten By A Head Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 4) (2yo) 7f Row on Good going.

This chestnut colt, a son of Frankel out of the mare Muffri'Ha in the ownership of Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum was seriously backed from an opening price of 12/1 - 9/2. William Buick gave this February foal a confident ride: ''Towards rear, steady headway on outer over 2f, pushed along over 1f out, led inside final 110yds, comfortably.''

William Haggas said: ''Al Mubhir did that nicely. The jockey liked him but said he knew nothing so we might have to run him again but he was a bit spicy after the race so we'll have to see.''

This looks one of the best performances from this year's crop of two-year-old recruits and no mean feat beating Filistine trained by John Gosden and First Officer, trained by Roger Varian, who finished with some verve.

The mare Muffri'Ha was similarly owned and trained over four seasons (2014 - 17), racing 28 times, achieving 7 wins including a Group 3 success at Newmarket and placed at Group 1. She had a highest official rating of 109 and total earnings of £268,072.

Al Mubhir is an exciting prospect who is likely to race at Group class and may be a candidate for the 2,000 Guineas.

This was Frankel's 349th individual winner.

Good luck to connections.
